  • Munoz distributes free masks at PPE giveaway event

    Munoz062920CHICAGO – State Senator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) joined Alderman Patrick Daley Thompson, South Branch Park Advisory Council and Greater Bridgeport Mutual Aid Saturday for a free personal protective equipment giveaway in the 11th Ward.

    “It’s been proven how effective masks are at reducing the spread of COVID-19,” Munoz said. “It’s critical that we ensure every person has access to the protective equipment they need to keep themselves safe during this pandemic.”

    Area residents came to Eleanor Boathouse in Park 571 to receive free reusable masks, hand sanitizer, and hot dogs.

    Munoz donated 250 reusable masks for the event.

    Under Gov. JB Pritzker’s Stay at Home Order, face coverings are required for anyone over the age of 2 in public spaces where social distancing is not possible.

  • Villanueva bringing masks to Little Village

    masks 051220CHICAGO – State Senator Celina Villanueva (D-Chicago) and other elected officials are partnering with community organizations to distribute masks to the Little Village community on Wednesday. Mask distribution is first come, first served, with priority given to seniors.

    “Little Village has the highest infection rate in the entire state, and we need to make sure that the most vulnerable people in our community are protected,” Villanueva said. “We all must take precautions to protect them, so please come by to get a mask if you do not have one.”

    Event partners include Enlace Chicago, Rincón Family Services and Telpochcalli Community Education Project.

    New drive-thru COVID-19 testing site available in Waukegan

    TestingWAUKEGAN — A new drive-thru COVID-19 testing facility in Waukegan is now open to area residents, State Senator Terry Link (D-Indian Creek) announced.

    “It remains critical that we continue to test as many individuals as possible to help us better understand the presence of this virus in Lake County and help limit its spread,” Link said. “If you are experiencing COVID-like symptoms, I highly encourage you to stop by this new site and get tested.”

    Assistant Majority Leader Tony MunozCHICAGO — To help prepare local residents for the new face covering requirement, Assistant Majority Leader Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) partnered with Joann Fabrics in donating 5,000 masks to local businesses and organizations on Friday.

    “My volunteers and I are more than grateful to be able to provide masks to local residents,” Munoz said. “I thank Joann Fabrics for their partnership and work during these trying times.”

    Several Senate Democrats urge IDPH to release nursing home PPE distribution numbers

    Nursing home PPECHICAGO — Before reaching an agreement with their managers, nearly 70 nursing homes across the state planned to go on strike because of unsafe working conditions. In response to the initial strike proposal, several Illinois Senate Democrats wrote a letter to the Illinois Department of Public Health and many local health departments requesting to know the amount of Personal Protective Equipment that has been distributed to those nursing homes and the process by which it was distributed.

    The request comes from members of the Illinois Senate Democratic Caucus who have at least one nursing home in the district they represent where management received strike notices last week. Employees of 64 nursing homes across the state sent strike notices to management, saying facilities do not have enough PPE, safety protocols, and adequate hazard pay.

    Gov. JB Pritzker’s modified stay-at-home order requiring face coverings for anyone over the age of 2 in public spaces where social distancing is difficult went into effect May 1.
