State Senator Doris Turner speaks on the Senate floorSPRINGFIELD – State Senator Doris Turner proudly welcomed nearly $5 million in grant funding awarded to 66 grantees to boost tourism and economic development in Central Illinois and across the state.

“Visitors are flocking to Illinois in record numbers to see hidden gems and world-renowned destinations,” said Turner (D-Springfield). “Thanks to the state’s tourism grant programs, communities will be able to further promote events, improve attractions, and develop new and enhanced festivals across Illinois.”

Senate Democrats continue to support the tourism industry as millions of visitors spend billions annually across Illinois, boosting economic development and supporting jobs in the industry. Over $4.8 billion was awarded to 66 grantees statewide under the Illinois Department of Economic Opportunity’s tourism attractions, marketing partnership and private sector grant programs.

Illinois reached its highest-ever hotel revenue figures in Fiscal Year 2025 with $367 million – a 14% increase over the previous year. Additionally, Illinois welcomed 113 million visitors who spent $48.5 billion in 2024 – representing 500,000 additional travelers spending $1.3 billion more than calendar year 2023.
