WAUKEGAN – Building upon the smart infrastructure investments supported by Senator Adriane Johnson, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced an investment of nearly $8 million in road and bridge improvement projects.

“For too long, our infrastructure has suffered from historic underinvestment, threatening the safety and security of our community,” said Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove). “These funds will go toward revitalizing our roads, creating jobs and boosting growth in the area.”

As part of IDOT’s latest Multi-Year Plan under Rebuild Illinois, the district Johnson represents will see 20 infrastructure projects totaling more than $62 million over the next six years.

Some of the most vital projects coming to the area this year include:

• Lane reallocation on Route ILL 137 Sheridan Road from  11^th to 16^th Street in North Chicago
• Bridge replacement on Belvidere Street near CNW RR & ILL 137 in Waukegan
• Construction engineering on Belvidere Street near CNW RR & ILL 137 in Waukegan
• Construction engineering  on Lakeview Parkway  near Center Drive to Fairway in Vernon Hills
• Pavement improvements on Lakeview Parkway near Center Drive to Fairway in Vernon Hills

These projects are part of IDOT’s multi-year plan, a $34.6 billion investment in construction projects for the next six fiscal years.  

The $34.6 billion will go to highway reconstruction and preservation, bridge improvements, strategic expansion, system support such as engineering and land acquisition, and safety and system modernizations. Over six years, the funding will be dispersed to improve more than 2,500 miles of roads and nearly 10 million square feet of bridges.

“Good infrastructure is key to easier commutes, more tourism opportunities and enhanced economic activity, “Johnson said. “These projects won’t just make our commutes safer, they’ll bring jobs to the community to benefit families for years to come.”

WAUKEGAN – State Senator Adriane Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove) released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, removing millions of women the right to choose:

“Today’s decision is heartbreaking and a direct attack on women. The decision a woman makes about her body and reproductive health care is her own choice. We fought for this basic fundamental right and now our country is taking that away for millions of women of all ages.

WAUKEGAN – To ensure communities have a safe option to discard opioids and other prescription medication, State Senator Adriane Johnson supported a new Illinois law to create a statewide disposal program.

“Prescription drug abuse is dangerous and hurting families in every corner of our state,” said Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove). “This new law will protect our children and help prevent individuals from forming addictions by creating an option for community members to dispose of prescription drugs.”

WAUKEGAN – To provide input and improve the commerce relationship of Illinois agencies with minority-owned and women-owned businesses, State Senator Adriane Johnson was appointed to serve on the State Procurement Task Force.

“In the past, equity has not been prioritized in the state procurement process,” said Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove). “By assigning a task force to help strengthen the relationship of agencies with minority-owned and women-owned businesses, Illinois can work to create an inclusive commerce process throughout the state.”

SPRINGFIELD – The governor signed a plan into law with support from State Senator Adriane Johnson to invest in child care services for workers with non-traditional schedules, such as law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel and more.

“First responders and other third shift emergency workers have difficulty finding reliable child care,” said Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove). “By creating the Off-hours Child Care Program Fund, Illinois is working to increase accessibility for parents in public service who work non-traditional hours.”

SPRINGFIELD – Schools fees will be waived for low-income students with veteran or active military parents under a new law championed by State Senator Adriane Johnson.

“Veterans and active military members endure many hardships, and families with young children are finding it difficult to keep up with school fees,” said Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove). “By offering support to our heroes and their families, we can assist them through difficult financial times.”

WAUKEGAN – State Senator Adriane Johnson was appointed to serve on the Military Economic Development Committee by Senate President Don Harmon on Tuesday.

“To protect residents and working families, military operations in Illinois must be sound,” said Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove). “Improving the business climate, ensuring bases are fully equipped and offering assistance to service members and their families will create a strong military presence throughout the state.”

The Military Economic Development Committee organizes Illinois’ efforts to preserve, protect, expand, and attract new military missions, assets, and installations. Members also explore ways to encourage defense-related businesses to expand or relocate, identify trends and support long-term viability within the state.

“I look forward to my responsibilities as a member of the Military Economic Development Committee,” Johnson said.

The committee makes recommendations to enhance Illinois’ military presence to the governor, General Assembly, congressional delegation, and other government officials.

SPRINGFIELD – To offer support to historically disadvantaged male students, Gov. JB Pritzker signed an initiative by State Senator Adriane Johnson into law to make a strong, statewide effort to explore solutions for equity in Illinois classrooms.

“A constituent expressed concerns for male students in classrooms when it comes to education equity,” said Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove). “With support from my constituency, I’m relieved this law will allow our state to strategically explore ways to support young men in marginalized communities.”
