CHICAGO – Illinois’ national standing in the film and television industry continues to rise – most recently after seeing $650 million in film production expenditures for the second year in a row.
“Illinois continues to lead the nation in attracting film and television companies from around the world thanks to the Film Production Tax Credit,” said State Senator Elgie R. Sims, Jr. (D-Chicago). “The film industry brings millions of dollars to Illinois’ economy – and, in turn, enhances opportunities for good-paying jobs in the communities that need them most.”
Sims was instrumental in leading the initial expansion of the Film Production Tax Credit – a 30% tax credit on qualified expenditures, including production spending, salaries, and an additional 15% on salaries for people who live in economically disadvantaged areas. Unlike other states, Illinois does not have a cap on film and television tax credits. The tax credit was recently extended once more through 2033.
The state also recently committed to further growing its world-renowned film industry by launching the Film and TV Workforce Training Program with the goal of training Illinois high school graduates in entry-level film and television production positions.
Sims vows to continue to uplift the vibrant industry that supports local catering companies and restaurants, hotels, drivers, a diverse union workforce, and other key industries.
