OAKBROOK TERRACE – State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs) released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, removing millions of women the right to choose:

“As a woman, mother and state senator, I am dismayed and heartbroken at the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling. This decision is not only setting a dangerous precedent but also is endangering the lives of women across our nation.

“The court’s actions will disproportionately harm women by snatching their right to make their own decisions regarding their reproductive health.

“By inherently, criminalizing choices a woman may make regarding their own bodies, we are setting our country back and undoing years of advocacy for equality and equity in society.

“I am proud of our great state for taking steps to enact policies and necessary precautions to protect women across Illinois and urge other states to pass similar legislation. We must continue to fight to protect a woman’s right to choose and make health care decisions to secure the best medical outcomes for their own bodies. We cannot rest until all women have the freedom to make their own decisions about their own lives.”
