Governor Pritzker and IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike walked into Sunday’s briefing at the Thompson center wearing masks. They removed them to give their comments.

The latest numbers as of Sunday:

  • 899 new cases (11,256 total)
  • 31 new deaths (274 total)

Deaths include the second person from Stateville Correctional Center, where 60 cases have been reported.

Gov. Pritzker focused his remarks on the need for child care for essential employees. Effective April 1, all essential workers – nurses, doctors, grocery store clerks, food producers -- now qualify for the state’s Child Care Assistance Program. The governor was asked why Illinois isn’t imposing curfews or other more restrictive orders.

Pritzker said he’s looked at other options and balanced actions on what can be enforced. He said more action could be taken and he’s constantly evaluating options. He noted that South Korea requires your temperature be taken before you can go in a grocery store.
