Governor Pritzker just wrapped up a news conference with public health officials to update the public on COVID-19. The two key things are:
- There are 4 new cases.
- The governor issued a disaster proclamation, which has the effect of making the state eligible for federal funds and allows the use of disaster relief funds and generally makes it easier to get additional financial and personnel resources at state and local levels.
The governor and health officials urged people to make good decisions and remain calm. He also cautioned that from what’s been seen in other states and countries, there will be more cases here. By good decisions, he meant washing hands, staying home if you are sick, re-thinking attending large gatherings and not hording supplies.
He also suggested people check in on elderly friends and neighbors to make sure they are OK.
He also announced daily press briefings on COVID-19 will begin Tuesday.
