SPRINGFIELD – To protect the wellbeing of immigrant communities, State Senator Celina Villanueva (D-Chicago) passed legislation in the Illinois Senate that would reinstate the Illinois Immigrant Impact Task Force.

“We need this task force in order to determine where relief efforts have fallen short for immigrant communities,” Villanueva said. “We must address the systemic disinvestment in our area and build a recovery that benefits all Illinoisans, regardless of status.”

The legislation would reinstate the Illinois Immigrant Impact Task Force, which ended at the start of 2021. The task force would examine where the state can improve relations and services in immigrant communities, the impact of the pandemic, disbursement of funds to immigrant communities, practices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the state among other issues.

The task force would consist of 28 members, including representatives from the Departments of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Education, Human Services and Juvenile Justice. Community-based organizations that serve immigrant populations would also be represented in the task force.

The legislation, Senate Bill 2665, passed the Illinois Senate and awaits consideration in the Illinois House.

SPRINGFIELD – Para proteger el bienestar de las comunidades inmigrantes, la Senadora estatal Celina Villanueva (D-Chicago) aprobó una legislación en el Senado de Illinois que reinstaurará el Grupo de Trabajo de Impacto en los Inmigrantes.

“Necesitamos este grupo de trabajo para determinar dónde se han quedado cortos los esfuerzos de alivio a las comunidades inmigrantes,” dijo Villanueva. “Debemos atender la desinversión histórica que ha afectado nuestra área, al tiempo que construimos una recuperación que beneficie a todos los residentes de Illinois, independientemente de su estatus migratorio.”

La legislación reinstalará el Grupo de Trabajo de Impacto en los Inmigrantes que culminó al comienzo de 2021. El grupo de trabajo examinará cómo el estado puede mejorar las relaciones y servicios prestados a las comunidades inmigrantes, el impacto de la pandemia, la implementación de fondos en las comunidades inmigrantes, y las prácticas de la oficina de Inmigración y Aduanas en el estado, entre otros asuntos.

El grupo de trabajo está integrado por 28 miembros, incluyendo representantes de los Departamentos de Comercio y Oportunidad Económica, Educación, Servicios Sociales y Justicia Juvenil. Las organizaciones comunitarias que sirven a la población inmigrante también estarán representadas.

La legislación SB 2665 fue aprobada en el Senado de Illinois y espera ser considerada en la Cámara de Representantes.
