Castro: ‘We’re just getting started’

Castro exec orders 011519

SPRINGFIELD – Senator Cristina Castro (D-Elgin) joined Governor JB Pritzker during his first actions as governor at the Illinois State Capitol today, as he took strides to further Castro’s goals of ensuring equal pay regardless of gender.

On his first full day in office, Pritzker issued an executive order clarifying that the state will no longer ask prospective employees questions about salary history. Too often, this has led to women being trapped in jobs and paid less than men. The new governor also asked his agencies to review the state’s plan to remove gender bias from state salaries.

“Closing the pay gap for women has been a personal priority,” said Castro. “I applaud Governor Pritzker for sharing that priority and backing it up with action on his first full day in office. Today, he made Illinois better for workers throughout our state. And we’re just getting started.”
