Drug Take-Back Day allows safe, legal med disposal

scripdrug-disposalOn Saturday, September 27, you can dispose of leftover, unneeded and expired prescription drugs in a manner that is safe for the community and the environment.

The Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day makes collection sites available nationwide for consumers to drop off all solid forms of unwanted medication. The take-back event is free and anonymous.

On the last take-back event in April, more than 6,000 sites provided this service. During the previous seven events, consumers disposed of more than 4 million pounds of unwanted pills, tablets and capsules.

Unattended prescription drugs may be stolen and sold or taken by children or teens. Thrown in the garbage or flushed, prescription drugs have an impact on aquatic life and habitat and may end up in our water supply.
