Biotherapy facility expansion brings $240 million Southland development: Hutchinson

microscopeKankakee County has just received good news for future employment in the form of a second facility expansion to a resident biotherapy company’s Bourbonnais Township campus. The second development plan follows a recently completed 140,000-square-foot expansion. Bourbannais Township’s 64-acre campus will be undergoing another $240-million, 300,000-square-foot expansion that will be ready for production in 2017.

“The recent investment in private infrastructure in Kankakee County illustrates the confidence the corporate world has in the Southland,” State Senator Toi Hutchinson (D – Chicago Heights) said.

“Thanks to the local residents hard at work developing these biotherapies, patients in dire need of innovative healing around the world are receiving the treatments they need.”

Through the expansions, CSL Behring, a world leader in biotherapy research and development, is significantly increasing its plasma processing and albumin production capacity, crucial components of developing treatments for catastrophic blood loss and burns.

The construction of the new expansion will once again add temporary construction and permanent facility jobs for the community. Though the exact numbers of jobs that will be created by the expansion is unknown, a similar expansion at an Australian plant produced 190 additional jobs.

The plasma products derived by the over 1,000 employees at the plant are used in treating immune deficiencies around the world.

The company currently employs 13,000 people in 30 countries.
