Senator Terry Link Bio

Senator Terry Link was first elected to the State Senate in November, 1996. He currently serves as the Illinois Senate’s Assistant Majority Leader.

Prior to entering the Senate, Link was a partner in Major Industrial Trucking of Lake County, a governmental affairs staffer with Johnson Controls, and an administrator with both the State Treasurer’s and Secretary of State’s offices.

His legislative awards include the Henry Toll Fellowship, BILLD Fellowship, the Distinguished Service Award by the Illinois Committee of Honest Government, the Lake County AFL-CIO Person of the Year, the JCYS Mitzvah Award, the Barat College Presidential Award, and both the NICASA Partners and Humanitarian Awards. Senator Link also received the Helmet Award from the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois, the American Cancer Society’s Dome Award, and Roosevelt University’s “Saving Lives” Legislative Award. For his service to Illinois veterans, Senator Link has been recognized by the American Legion, the VFW, AMVETS, and the Disabled American Veterans. In 2015, Senator Link was the recipient of the Nathan Hale Award from the ROA Department of Illinois.

Senator Link’s legislative career has been described as a common sense approach to helping the people of the 30th Senate District. During his tenure in the Senate, he has been a champion of legislation for the environment, economic development, tax fairness, health care, “Smoke Free Illinois” and human and veteran services.

Senator Link is a board member of the College of Lake County Foundation. He is also a long-time board member of the Northern Illinois Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (NICASA).

Born in Waukegan, Senator Link is a lifelong resident of Lake County, and is a graduate of North Chicago High School and Stout State University. He is married to Susan McCall Link and has four daughters, two son-in-laws, and five grandchildren.
