Sims: RHA is historic step that protects fundamental right to choose

Sen. Elgie R. Sims Jr.SPRINGFIELD—State Senator Elgie R. Sims, Jr. (D-Chicago) released the following statement after the Reproductive Health Act was signed into law Wednesday:

“The historic step we took today will protect women’s access to safe, legal reproductive health care for years to come. I am proud that we took a stand to ensure that the people of Illinois are able to make the very personal decision of whether or not to become a parent.

“We have seen state after state strip away women’s fundamental right to choose. I need not be a woman to understand just how important this fight is. I am pleased that our state leaders stood together to block the attacks on the women of Illinois.

“I hope states across the country will see what we did today and follow suit. We must stand with the women of America in this crucial fight to ensure that with the help of their doctor, they can make health care decisions that are in their own best interest.”
