Bush demands action on Reproductive Health Act

bush 051519SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) joined legislators and activists in demanding the House take action to protect women’s reproductive rights by passing the Reproductive Health Act. The move comes a day after the Alabama State Senate voted to ban abortion and criminalize doctors who perform the procedure.

“There’s a very real possibility that Roe v. Wade will be overturned in the next few years,” Bush said. “We need to take action now in Illinois to make sure that, regardless of what happens at the federal level, Illinois women maintain the right to a safe, legal abortion.”

Bush advances measure protecting seniors from home repair scams

bush 051019SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) advanced a measure yesterday to provide seniors additional protections from door-to-door home repair scams.

“We’ve seen cases where people have posed as city inspectors or police officers and used scare tactics to pressure seniors into making costly and unnecessary home repairs,” Bush said. “This bill will give seniors more time to cancel home repair contracts, making them less likely to fall victim to financial scams.”

Bush holds Senate hearing on infrastructure and transportation needs in Lake County

bush 050719GRAYSLAKE – State lawmakers heard from local elected officials, educators and stakeholders on transportation and infrastructure needs in Lake County today during a Senate capital hearing.

The hearing, hosted by State Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake), marked the seventh stop on the lawmakers’ statewide tour to hear about local infrastructure concerns and discuss a potential statewide construction plan.

“What we heard today was not a surprise to me,” Bush said. “When it comes to infrastructure, road congestion is the biggest problem in Lake County. We’ve seen a major population boom in Lake County, but our infrastructure hasn’t kept up with that growth.”

Bush demands ethylene oxide testing in Lake County

bush 031419SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) passed a resolution in the Illinois Senate Environment and Conservation Committee today calling on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to conduct ambient air monitoring and testing in and around the two Lake County facilities that emit ethylene oxide.

“While I’m pleased the U.S. EPA is conducting testing around Sterigenics, it’s well past time they do the same in Lake County,” Bush said. “Residents need to know if the air they’re breathing is safe. They deserve to know if they’re at a higher risk for cancer, but right now they’re being left in the dark.”
