For nearly 40 years, the Springfield Ballet Company has awed audiences with its grace, strength and passion.

Since its inception in 1975, the ballet company has also had a presence at the Illinois State Fair, performing for parents, families and audiences from across Illinois.

“People come to the fair from all over the state,” Springfield Ballet Company Artistic Director Julie Ratz said. “It is really important for our dancers to give back to the community - to come out and perform for people who may not get to see us normally.”

Peggy Ryan from Springfield has two daughters who dance with the Springfield Ballet.

“At the Fair, you see people coming in and out who really aren’t into ballet but enjoy the performance anyway,” Ryan said. “That is one of the nice things about the State Fair - you can find yourself watching Irish Dancing or something else you have never done before, which is really nice.”
