SPRINGFIELD – Majority Leader James F. Clayborne Jr. (D-Belleville) was honored with a resolution for his decades of service to Illinois and the Metro East today.

The resolution detailed how Clayborne has used his position in the senate to guarantee that every child, regardless of their ZIP code, has the tools and opportunities to achieve their dreams.

“I want to thank my constituents over the years for allowing me to serve them in Springfield,” Clayborne said. “By working together we have made our schools better, increased opportunities for all and worked to build a state we are all proud of.”

Some highlights of Clayborne’s career include:

  • Sponsoring bus trips to Historically Black Colleges and Universities for high-achieving students
  • Passing legislation to rebuild damaged or aging schools in Wolf Branch, Belle Valley and East St. Louis
  • Voting for monumental school funding reforms
  • Securing financial help for the East St. Louis School District and brining some of the largest downstate school construction grants to the Metro East

Clayborne’s future plans include focusing on his law practice and spending more time with his wife, Amber, his four sons and stepdaughter, and his three beautiful grandchildren.
