Honoring all who served

Members of the Illinois Senate Democratic Caucus today shared their experiences serving in the armed forces and their thoughts on Veterans Day.

“We want to thank the men and women who served our country. Veterans from every branch of the military are part of a brave group of patriots who defend the principles and values that define America,” Senate President John J. Cullerton (D-Chicago).

“We actually have a lot to be thankful for in this country, and veterans are a crucial piece to making that happen,” said Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park).

Sen. Michael E. Hastings (D-Tinley Park) believes it’s important to also honor the families of veterans.

“I want to say thanks to all the military families… the Gold Star families who lost a loved one in service. That’s the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and I don’t think any amount of thanks or gratitude will ever express how truly grateful we are,” said Hastings.

Muñoz is urging people to thank the veterans in their lives.

“A lot of people don’t realize and understand what veterans do for this country and for their flag, and it is our duty to make sure that we say thank you to all of them because it is for them that we are free,” said Sen. Antonio Muñoz (D-Chicago).

Sen. Tom Cullerton, Sen. Hastings and Sen. Muñoz served in the Army, while Senate President Cullerton served in the Illinois National Guard.
