Black History Month 2016 (VIDEO)

Since the mid-1970’s, Black History Month has celebrated the achievements of African Americans who have played an integral part in the American story.

Originally just a week long, this celebration has expanded to include the entire month, and as time has passed, grown to include additional figures in politics, social justice and entertainment who have played a role in shaping present-day America.

This year’s national theme, Hallowed Grounds, Sites of African American Memories, looks at different landmarks that are representative of the marks African Americans have made throughout our state and country.
