Rauner making demands on TV when he should be building bridges with lawmakers

stock presserSPRINGFIELD – Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Rauner’s media event in central Illinois today:

“Gov. Rauner should be building bridges with lawmakers so that he can become the governor who finally signs education funding reform into law. But instead of seizing the chance to cement his legacy as a reformer, he’s making demands in front of TV cameras.

wagefreezePLAINFIELD — Members of the Illinois General Assembly would not receive an automatic increase in mileage reimbursements or per diem rates due to a measure that passed the General Assembly during the spring legislative session with bipartisan support.

“Legislators should be ensuring that the government is prioritizing the necessary resources to social service providers and schools,” State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) said.  "Since I have been in office, I have voted to halt any increases in my salary."

Good morning.

Thank you for the opportunity to be here. I always look forward to talking to this group.

I’m pleased to finally have something to talk about in regards to our budget.

But before I put everyone to sleep with a long discussion of budget numbers, I want to begin with some audience participation.

Cullerton cites Radogno's cooperation, professionalism

jjc cr CST 0117SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois Senate President John J. Cullerton issued the following statement regarding the pending retirement of his colleague and friend Republican Leader Christine Radogno.

She and I began as Senate leaders on the same day. We started our relationship in those roles by voting for each other. We then turned our attention to the impeachment trial. We followed that up with a long-overdue, bipartisan agreement on investing in roads, bridges, schools and other infrastructure.
