Bertino-Tarrant: Stop playing politics with our children’s education

willco fakenewsSPRINGFIELD – State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) issued the following statement in response to inaccurate school funding numbers being published as fact for Will County in regards to Senate Bill 1:

“This is an attempt by the political arm of the Republican Party to rouse suspicion and derail years of hard work in reforming the way we fund our schools. The Will County Gazette is partisan pandering made to look like real, honest journalism.

“Despite these inaccurate numbers being released, Governor Rauner and his education secretary have failed to address the inappropriateness of its release. Instead, they sit quietly while political machines spread misinformation.

“Senate Bill 1 was thoroughly vetted with legislators and is supported by education advocacy groups throughout the state. The gamesmanship is only attempting to kill progress.

“Like bills of the past, Senate Republicans negotiate and then when they don’t get the green light from the governor’s office, they grandstand against the bill they helped craft. It completely interrupts any way of truly working together.”
